The Monster Pump Organs with 40 Stops & 1,365 Reeds
The pump organ company Gilbert & Co., located on King’s Road, London, England sold a three manual organ that
came with 40 stops and 1,365 reeds. They came in a suction operated model, as most did in the United States,
or the pressure model which was common throughout Europe.
In addition, these organs came with foot pedals or a side or back mounted pump handle. In addition, you
could even buy one with a two foot side mounted crank wheel.
You need to keep in mind that the average pump organ came with only 121 reeds, 61 in the front and 61 in the
back and around 8 to 12 stops.
The Bauer Company was also awarded a medallion at the 1876 Philadelphia Exposition for their organs.
