Pump Organs at War
Pump organs were used throughout all branches of the armed forces during both World Wars, as well as the Spanish
American and Korean conflicts -- and in all too many cases not far from the front lines.
Above an army chaplain holds church services in a fruit orchard somewhere in Europe during World War II, while
his assistant plays the pump organ. These organs folded into a carrying case and could be carried by one
person (usually by the Chaplin's assistant).
