Missing Manufacture’s Name

This can be a problem. Unfortunately, some pump organs today no longer show the name of the manufacturer which always appears along the front of the organ's stop board.

The reason it's no longer there is because someone, somewhere during the history of the organ, decided to refinish the organ’s wood case (usually made out of Oak or Walnut) and was never able to find some new stencil lettering. This makes determining the name of the company difficult, if not impossible.

However, some pump organ companies did place a paper label showing the name of the manufacturer inside the back of the organ - but not always. We need to keep in mind that at one time in this country there were over 650 pump organ manufactures offering a wide variety of shapes and sizes of pump organs, which makes trying to find a photo that looks like your organ a real challenge.
