Finding Reed Organ Sheet Music
Occasionally I'm asked "where can I find sheet music?" Currently I am not aware of
anyone that is publishing sheet music for reed organs and piano sheet music doesn't work very well
for reed organs.
Probably the best place to look is on eBay or Craig's list. Both sites usually have several unrestored reed
organs for sale, including sheet music. However, you'll soon notice that sheet music is not always for sale; those
who have it tend to hold on to it.
If you do find some sheet music it's probably not going to be music that you've heard before, but it's certainly
period sheet music. Quite often you'll run across church music, or songs that were popular during that time
frame.
However, once you've purchased some sheet music, be sure and make a copy of it and then place the original sheet
music in a dark plastic bag (a garbage bag works very well), and store it away in a safe, dry place.
Due to the age of antique sheet music, the paper is generally quite fragile and brakes into pieces very
easily.
Some people will leave their antique sheet music on the organ's music tray, but this is usually just for show.
They'll always use their copy of sheet music for playing.
